EN 1090 Welding Inspection Services for Structural Steel

EN 1090 welding inspection services help project teams obtain independent verification of the welding activities defined for a structural-steel package. The applicable EN 1090 part and edition, execution class where applicable, inspection stages, records and acceptance criteria are established by the execution specification and controlled project documents.

Dilenza scopes the assignment around those documents rather than a generic checklist. The result is a request for the inspection activities actually needed at the fabrication shop, during site erection, or at a defined project hold point.

For a broader service overview, see welding inspection services. For an industry-specific view, see structural steel welding inspection.

Inspect the Welding Work at the Required Control Points

Before welding

Review the issued scope, drawings, inspection and test plan, procedure documentation and welder qualification records where they are included in the assignment. Confirm document revisions, traceability records, joint preparation and agreed hold or witness points before work progresses.

During fabrication or site erection

Verify the in-process activities named in the agreed scope, such as fit-up, visual checks and project-defined welding controls. Record observations against the applicable project documentation and identify items that need action under the agreed reporting process.

After welding

Carry out visual or dimensional checks where assigned. Review or witness NDT status only where requested, without presenting this service as NDT performance. Record open items, corrective work and reinspection status when they form part of the assignment.

The Execution Specification Defines the Actual Requirement

The phrase “EN 1090” is not a complete inspection scope. Send the documents that define what must be checked and when. This avoids matching an inspector only to a standard name when the package, execution requirements and control points are project-specific.

Where available, include:

  • The applicable EN 1090 part and edition
  • The required execution class, where stated
  • The execution specification, drawings and current revision status
  • The inspection and test plan, hold points and witness points
  • WPS, WPQR and welder qualification records relevant to the assignment
  • Material traceability, NDT and reporting requirements
  • Fabrication or erection dates and the project location

You can also consult Dilenza’s standards and codes overview before sending the request.

EN 1090 Project Inspection, Not Certification

Book this service when you need independent project inspection and reporting. Do not use it to request Factory Production Control certification, CE marking, a Declaration of Performance, an EN 1090 conformity certificate, design approval, welding procedure approval or a final acceptance decision.

Dilenza does not issue those documents or make those determinations through this service. The inspector works to the agreed project scope and records the inspection observations. Responsibilities for fabrication, certification, regulatory declarations and final acceptance remain with the appropriate parties under the project framework.

Match the Inspector to the Structural-Steel Scope

Use this service for project-defined inspection requirements such as:

  • Structural-steel fabrication-shop surveillance
  • Pre-shipment or release-stage inspection where assigned
  • Site erection and connection-welding inspection
  • Defined hold-point or witness-point coverage
  • Documentation and traceability-status checks
  • Corrective-work and reinspection verification

If the requirement is a single planned visit, use short-term inspection. For repeated coverage across a fabrication programme, use recurring inspection. For ongoing site or factory presence, use resident inspectors.

What the Inspection Record Can Cover

The deliverables are agreed before the assignment starts. Depending on that scope, the inspection record can cover:

  • Fabrication or site observation reports
  • Agreed photo records
  • Document and revision-status checks
  • Traceability and qualification-record status
  • NDT result or witness status, not NDT testing performed by Dilenza
  • Open items, corrective action and reinspection status

The report must identify the project documents used and the inspection activities actually completed. Do not publish a generic “EN 1090 compliant” statement unless the responsible project authority has authorized it.

EN 1090 Welding Inspection Services FAQ

Does this service provide EN 1090 certification?

No. Dilenza provides independent project inspection and reporting only. It does not issue EN 1090 certification, Factory Production Control certification, CE marking, a Declaration of Performance or a conformity certificate.

Can the inspection cover both fabrication and site erection?

Yes, if both stages are included in the request and the scope, location and schedule are clear. State whether the work is at a fabrication shop, site, or both.

What if we do not know the execution class?

Send the issued project documents and state that the execution class is not yet known. The responsible project documentation and authority determine the actual requirement. Do not guess it in the request.

Does Dilenza perform NDT?

This service can include NDT status review or witnessing only when that is written into the agreed scope. It is not a request to perform NDT. Describe any testing requirement separately so the assignment is scoped correctly.

What should we send with the request?

Send the project location, planned dates, structure or fabricated package, applicable EN 1090 part or execution class if known, and the relevant execution specification, drawings and ITP.

Request an EN 1090 Welding Inspector

Send the project location, fabrication or erection stage, target dates and available project documents. If known, include the applicable EN 1090 part, edition and execution class. Dilenza will use this information to define the request and identify a suitable inspector profile for the agreed scope.

By submitting, you agree that Dilenza may use these project details to process your inspection request. Do not include information you are not authorized to share.
