FROSIO Coating Inspection Services
Need a FROSIO coating inspector for surface preparation, coating application, repair work or final acceptance?
Dilenza provides FROSIO coating inspection services by matching FROSIO-qualified inspector profiles to the actual project requirement: required level, coating system, asset, applicable specification, inspection scope, location and schedule.
Use the service for supplier fabrication, shipyards, offshore and marine work, construction activity, one-off hold points, recurring surveillance or a resident inspection assignment.
- FROSIO Level II and Level III profiles
- Scope matched to the coating system and project documents
- One visit, recurring, resident or rotational assignments

FROSIO Coating Inspection Services for Marine, Offshore and Industrial Projects
Protective coating quality is established before and during application, not only at final inspection. A FROSIO certified coating inspector can provide independent project inspection across the agreed stages of surface treatment, from preparation through final documentation.
Dilenza reviews the project requirement before proposing an inspector. The selection considers the required FROSIO level, asset, substrate, coating system, exposure environment, applicable specification, inspection and test plan, reporting requirements, location and schedule.
The agreed project documents always define the work to be inspected and the applicable acceptance criteria.
What a FROSIO Coating Inspector Can Verify
Before surface treatment
- Coating specification, inspection and test plan and project hold points
- Product data sheets, approved coating materials and batch traceability where required
- Substrate condition, welds, edges and areas requiring preparation
- Inspection equipment and calibration evidence where included in scope
- Environmental limits and preparation requirements stated in the project documents
During surface preparation
- Surface cleanliness and preparation condition
- Surface profile or roughness where required
- Dust, soluble salts and other contamination checks where specified
- Abrasive condition and preparation method
- Environmental conditions before coating application
During coating application
- Ambient conditions, steel temperature, relative humidity and dew point
- Coating mixing, induction time and pot life where applicable
- Application conditions, stripe coating and recoat intervals
- Wet-film thickness checks where required
- Observation of agreed hold points and the coating sequence
After coating application
- Dry-film thickness measurements against the agreed method and criteria
- Visual condition and coating defects
- Repair preparation, repair application and reinspection
- Holiday or discontinuity testing where required
- Adhesion testing, final inspection and documentation review where required
Inspection activities are confirmed before deployment. They are not assumed from the FROSIO certificate alone.
FROSIO Level II or Level III: Select for the Project Requirement
FROSIO uses a three-level certification structure. Level II and Level III profiles are commonly requested for independent coating inspection assignments, but the required level must follow the client specification and assigned responsibilities.
A Level III requirement can be appropriate for a senior, complex or contractually defined inspection role. It should not be selected automatically where Level II and relevant project experience satisfy the assignment.
Certification is the starting point. The suitable inspector must also understand the relevant asset, coating system, inspection methods and reporting process.
For a full explanation of the qualification and levels, see FROSIO Coating Inspectors.
FROSIO Inspector Selection Beyond the Certificate
Two FROSIO Level III inspectors can have very different project backgrounds. Before proposing a profile, Dilenza reviews:
- Asset type such as a vessel, tank, structure, pipeline, module or fabricated equipment
- Substrate and coating-system technology
- Service environment such as marine, offshore, atmospheric, immersion or chemical exposure
- Applicable client specification, standard and inspection methods
- Required activities such as surface-preparation inspection, DFT, testing, repairs or final acceptance
- Site location, dates, duration, working pattern, language and reporting requirements
This process helps ensure that the selected inspector is relevant to the work, not simply certified at the requested level.
One Visit, Recurring Surveillance or Resident FROSIO Inspection
One defined inspection visit
For a surface-preparation check, coating hold point, dry-film-thickness verification, repair inspection, final inspection or other defined project milestone.
Recurring coating surveillance
For repeat attendance across fabrication or a coating campaign when continuous presence is not required.
Resident or rotational FROSIO inspection
For continuous work at a supplier, fabrication yard, shipyard, construction site or offshore project. This arrangement can follow the coating programme across preparation, application, repairs and final records.
What You Receive From a FROSIO Coating Inspection Assignment
- A review of the available scope before profile selection
- A FROSIO-qualified inspector profile matched to the requirement
- Relevant qualification and experience details for client review where appropriate
- Confirmation of agreed inspection activities and reporting requirements
- Inspection reports and observations in line with the agreed assignment
- Clear escalation of issues through the agreed project communication process
FROSIO Coating Inspection at Suppliers, Yards and Project Sites
Dilenza supports FROSIO coating inspection assignments at supplier facilities, fabrication workshops, paint shops, shipyards, construction sites and other industrial project locations.
Share the project location, dates, expected duration and required presence. This allows the service requirement and suitable inspector availability to be assessed correctly.
FROSIO Coating Inspection Services FAQ
What is a FROSIO coating inspection service?
It is a project inspection service delivered by a FROSIO-qualified coating inspector whose profile is reviewed against the required level, coating system, asset, specification, location and assignment scope.
Should I request a FROSIO Level II or Level III inspector?
Follow the client specification and the responsibilities assigned to the inspector. If the requirement is unclear, share the available project documents so the appropriate level and relevant experience can be assessed.
Can I request a FROSIO coating inspector for a shipyard or offshore project?
Yes. Include the asset, coating system, applicable specification, required level, location and planned dates. Relevant marine or offshore experience can then be considered during profile selection.
Is FROSIO the same as AMPP or former NACE CIP?
No. They are different coating-inspector certification schemes. The required credential must follow the project specification. See Coating Inspection Services for broader project support.
Can the inspector check surface preparation and dry-film thickness?
Yes, where those activities are included in the agreed scope and governed by the applicable project specification and acceptance criteria.
Can we review the inspector’s qualification before assignment?
Where appropriate, relevant qualification details, CV information and project experience can be submitted for client technical review before deployment.
